La Pellegrina - the Florentine Intermedii of 1589 set in scene
Gods, Dragons & Demons - Festival of the Gods with Apollo and Bacchus
The pomp and splendor of its rulers were to be represented by the musical interludes to the comedy "La Pellegrina" on the occasion of the wedding of Christine of Lorraine to Ferdinando I de Medici in 1589. And the music based on mythological texts, composed by the most recognized Italian composers of the time, succeeded in doing just that. In its beauty and opulence, it is unsurpassed in the history of Renaissance music and is considered by us today to be the most glamorous secular music of the period and a precursor of opera. In formerly princely representation halls, Ensemble Phoenix Munich restages this "feast of the gods" in a multi-choir setting, combined with modern dance, and lets the audience relive this opulent celebration.
